Monkton Park Primary School in Wiltshire is to be the first Create Learning School in the South West to spearhead PE initiative.
They will become a hub for training and networking for regional schools. The Create Learning School will enable member schools to access support, impacting on the health and wellbeing of thousands of children at a time when childhood obesity is a growing concern.
Create Development’s unique, child-centred approach transforms the teaching of PE to engage and challenge every child, giving them a positive experience of physical activity.
As a result of the programme 97% of pupils at Monkton Park Primary now say they feel successful in PE because of the new methods, a jump of 20%. And every year group has seen a leap in the levels of children’s personal and social skills.
Teachers also report increased levels of pupils’ concentration thanks to the revolutionary PE programme. The teachers too are benefiting, with 93% saying they now feel empowered to deliver high quality PE lessons – a rise of almost 50%.
Monkton Park Deputy Headteacher, Jan Douglas, said: “Children are enthusiastic and engaged and the impact as they progress through the school is clearly evident. This can be seen not only in their physical skills but also in the language they use and their ability to self-reflect, support others and set their own challenges. The South West already enjoys strong working partnerships and we are delighted to be able to contribute to this by providing training and events as a Create Learning School.”
Ronnie Heath, Managing Director of Create Development, added: “We support teachers, who understand and know their pupils better than anyone, to deliver outstanding PE lessons. Too often, demands of the curriculum mean that PE is sidelined. Monkton Park Primary is a beacon school, highlighting the all-round impact of PE – not only on children’s attainment levels now, but on their future lives.”
The launch of Monkton Park as a Create Learning School on Thursday 8th June 2017 (9.00-11.30am) will be attended by local schools and sports organisations with support from Create Development and Chippenham Partnership of Schools.
