Family FUNS is making a real impact across the country and in Devon we’ve been working with our brilliant partners Active Devon, who have secured funding from Sport England to support 18 schools in accessing Family FUNS over the next two years.
Our pilot primary schools – Exminster, Countess Wear, Bowhill and Pinhoe CoE in Exeter and Drake in Plymouth – have worked with their first groups of families and many are already planning their next Family FUNS.
At Exminster Primary School, Family FUNS was led by the reception class teacher along with the School SEAL Coordinator and Parent Governor. As the school prepares its impact report here are some comments from the key people involved:
“Over the course of the programme, the level of engagement for most families has dramatically increased. It has been a pleasure watching parents grow in confidence around other families and communicating in a positive way with their children during play.”
Tilley Martin, Lead Teacher, Exminster Community Primary School
“There has been a wonderful buzz in our school hall during every Family FUNS session. The children and their families are always engaged in their activities and it is lovely to see families building new relationships with the other families at the club.”
Sarah Whalley, Headteacher, Exminster Community Primary School
“It’s been great having special time allocated to play with my children. They have really enjoyed it and the resources have been good to use at home too.”
Parent, Exminster Community Primary School
