Yesterday, the Department for Education reconfirmed that the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding will double from September 2017.
Concerns over budget cuts to schools were last night addressed by the Government as it announced its new funding plan for schools. The overall £1.3 billion allocated includes a significant increase in the Primary PE and Sport Premium.
The PE and Sport Premium was introduced in 2013 with the aim of encouraging healthy, active lifestyles through the provision of PE. Each primary school in the UK is allocated an amount based on the number of pupils in their school.
In an era where over a third of pupils are overweight by the time they leave primary school, this allocation of funding for Physical Education shows the Government’s increasing commitment to keeping children active and engraining positive experiences of physical activity from an early age.
The DfE is hoping to provide the foundation for schools to ‘Give every child the best possible education and the best opportunities for the future.’
We are delighted to hear the news and are determined to continue to support schools and Partners to redefine PE and physical activity with sustainable change and proven impact.
